Mars’ Formation Can Constrain the Primordial Orbits of the Gas Giants

Abstract Recent high-precision meteoritic data infers that Mars finished its accretion rapidly within 10 Myr of the beginning Solar System and had an zone did not entirely overlap with Earth’s. Here we present a detailed study planetary embryos from high-resolution simulations planetesimals in disk. We found all Jupiter Saturn on their current eccentric orbits (EJS) result similar between fast-forming Earth-region embryos. Assuming more circular for (CJS), other hand, has significantly higher chance forming dominated by Earth Venus-region embryos; however, CJS general forms slower than EJS. By further quantifying degree zones different regions average coefficient (OVL), OVL shows better match chondritic isotopic mixing model Mars, which indicates giant planets are likely to have resided during gas disk dissipation they do today, matching suggested pre-instability orbits. More samples, including those Mercury Venus, could potentially confirm this hypothesis.
